MINUTES OF THE IABA
JANUARY 25, 2003
6:30 - Pot Luck began
7:45 - Meeting called to order by Cec Foster.
Members present: KC Armstrong, Betsy Foley, Felicia & Kurt Gartung, Bill & Cynthia Heusser, Belinda & Richard Hersh, Bonnie Dyas, Pat Nations, Lisa Platter, Rochelle Garza, Karen Goodenough, John & Chris Murphy, Rob & Cec Foster, Shauna England, Bob & Sheila Harmon.
Minutes from last meeting are in the “Bermuda Triangle”. We shall miss them and try to carry on without them.
Our White Elephant Auction was a success and
a lot of fun was had by all. The
club raised over $200.00.
Bob Kegler resigned his board seat, which necessitated holding an election to fill the vacancy for the remainder of his term. Nominated were Bonnie Dyas and Kim Johnson.
7:50 - Meeting paused for packet stuffing.
8:10 - Meeting resumed.
We have a name change - congratulation to Barb on
The Yvonne Johnstone Award was presented to Kim
Garza, who worked hard with Penny, which enabled the young person
showing Penny in 4H to win her award.
Futurity Report: No report at this time. Bob Harmon is in need for a committee to help with advertising and other aspects of promoting our futurity. If interested please contact him.
Ride: Sheila Harmon states they have a fully staffed committee, but
if you are interested in participating to let her know.
Volunteers are needed the day of the ride. The ride has been
moved from a Sunday to a Saturday. The date is set for May 3, 2003. The
ride committee is holding a meeting at St Luke’s in Meridian on
January 30th at 6:30 P.M. For further information contact Sheila Harmon.
We discussed ways to help increase the clubs
membership. The idea of an incentive program is being considered with
some type of an award given to the person who recruits the most new
members in a year. Sheila
will keep track of the new membership count.
A discussion of a membership drive month ensued with a request
from Cec Foster for everyone to give a thought to some type of either
clinic or a speaker of a topic that is important to all of us in the
Our show manager for the Bennu Series is Bill
Heusser. Lisa Platter will
again manage the Country Classic. We will not be having the Shaggy
shows, as there were no volunteers to manage them.
We will revisit this next September and try to hold them again.
Country Classic: Bob Harmon made a motion that the show is should follow a breeders format. Sheila seconded it. Discussed after requested that this be tabled until the March meeting.
Rules for the Classic were discussed; Bonnie Dyas is to get a current rulebook for the classic committee. A motion was brought to the floor by Sheila Harmon that we establish a 5 member executive show committee for the purpose of making final show decisions consisting of 1 show manager, and preferably 2 member with class A background, a 2 members with breeders background. With 1 member of committee also being a member of executive board. Show manager will choose committee. Seconded by Belinda Hersh. Motion carried unanimously. We also need volunteers for our shows if willing to help please contact the show managers.
Horse Affair Report: We have only 2 stallions and 1 gelding for our stall. For anyone who has a nominated stallion if you wish to have videos of you horses there will be a TV set up, so get them ready and send them in. (please one horse per tape). Bonnie Dyas was gracious and donated a foal statue for a drawing at the horse affair. It was suggested that the ticket cost for the drawing would be $1.00 per ticket and $5.00 for 6 tickets. Also it was suggested to give away 1 free membership.
Bonnie Dyas brought a motion to the floor that we have our meetings every other month.
Rob Foster seconded it. Motion carried.

Meeting called to order by Cec Foster.

Minuets from the last meeting: Sheila motioned that they be excepted as they were printed in the last new letter. John Schmich seconded. Motion carried.
Diabetes Ride: We still need volunteers to help out. For those that wish to help out we need you to be there at 8:00 am, and the trail monitors need to be there at 9:00.
Classic: The judge is already booked. We still need help with advertising. As to the motion that was tabled last meeting, whether we should follow a breeders format. It was decided that the show will follow the rules in the rules will be at the show for anyone that has any questions or you can look them up on www.equestrian.org.
This year we will not have a photographer at the show but will set up an area so that you can take your own photos.
Idaho state meetings: They are working on a modified rulebook. If you wish to attend any of the meetings they are held at the Sunrise Café in Caldwell on the first Wednesday of the month.
Horse Affair: We want to send out our sincere thanks to the Hersh, the Harmons and their gang and Cec Foster. We had a lot of interested people visit our booth. Out of the 200 packets that we stuffed we have about 40- 50 left. We also received three new memberships. One of our new members was the winner of our ceramic horse. Congratulations Brenda Whitlatch.
Bennu Show: We have the arena reserved as to the dates are will be posted at a later date.
Membership drive: There were ideas as to help increase the numbers of our membership. Some of the ideas were a trail ride, a type of open house and postcards applications or a letter. Sheila has volunteered to come up with an idea and bring it up at the next meeting.
ISHSA: We needed a 2nd representative to attend the meetings. Bill Heusser volunteered. Thank you.
Member Participation Rewards: A committee has been put together consisting of Sheila Harmon (chair person) Bonnie Dyas, Cec Foster, Lisa Platter, and Shauna England. Cec Foster has volunteered her computer services to keep track of our volunteers. This is to try to keep our member involved in all of our activities.
Next meeting will be on May 17th at Pat Nations.
